Algonquin Artist in Residency program – call for submissions!

In partnership with the Algonquin Art Centre, Algonquin Provincial Park is excited to announce the launch of the 2018 Artist in Residency program.

This program allows artists working in various areas (visual, literary, media arts) to spend time in the heart of Algonquin’s beautiful wilderness — working on their projects, collaborating with park researchers, and participating in art outreach opportunities at the park Visitor Centre and the Algonquin Art Centre.

For this year’s residency, we’re asking artists to explore what makes Algonquin Provincial Park so unique as a wilderness park.

The residency runs September 5 to September 12 at the Found Lake residence, located right behind the Algonquin Art Centre at Km 20 on Highway 60. The residence is equipped with a full kitchen and is accessible by car.

Art outreach in the community

The artist will have the opportunity to lead activities at the Algonquin Art Centre and at the Algonquin Visitor Centre. Arts communication is a crucial component of our residencies.  It fulfills our mandate not only to foster artistic talent, but also to contribute cultural value to the larger community.

In consultation with the Algonquin Art Centre and park staff, the artist will be responsible for a demonstration, showcase, educational arts talk, or any other form of public engagement.

The public engagement piece will take place on Saturday September 8 at the Algonquin Visitor Centre between the hours 11:00 am and 3:30 pm, and at the Algonquin Art Centre on Sunday September 9, during the same hours.

Aside from these responsibilities, the artist’s only task is to enjoy the inspiration Algonquin has to offer, reflect on their practice, and spend time working on whatever project they choose!

Please note that the successful applicant will be responsible for their own food and transportation throughout the week.

Interested applicants should submit this online form no later than August 15, 2018. The successful applicant will be notified the following week.
