What you need to know when arriving at Killbear Provincial Park

At Killbear Provincial Park, you can skip stopping by the gatehouse and head right into the park to start enjoying your visit!

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • when you’re camping
  • when you’re visiting for the day
  • if you’re a seasonal permit holder

When you’re camping

Before you go, reserve your campsite like you usually would – just make sure you have a digital or printed copy of your confirmation letter on your person.

That’s the only permit you need!

To speed things up even more, complete self check-in. You will receive an email reminder the day of your trip. This allows you to confirm any pre-registered information or enter your licence plate and the names of all campsite occupants.

Prior to the day of arrival, you can log into your Ontario Parks account and click the “My Reservations” button, click the “View registration details” button, and then click the “Preregister” button. Additionally, you can preregister by calling the call centre at 1-888-668-7275.

When you arrive at the park, this is where you’ll notice the change.

You no longer need to stop at the gatehouse to get your permit. Instead, simply drive straight to your site, unpack, and start camping!

Remember: check in is still at 2:00 p.m. Please only proceed to your campsite after this time.

Instead of having a permit on your permit post, park wardens will check that you have paid for your site by looking up your vehicle licence plate.

If your licence plate or campsite occupant information is not up to date upon arrival, please update this information by visiting park staff before proceeding into the park.

Killbear’s gatehouses will still be open and continue to be the place for:

  • buying firewood and kindling
  • registering an additional vehicle to your site
  • picking up a park tabloid with a park map
  • asking a friendly staff member for help or directions

Park tabloids are also available at comfort stations, bulletin boards, and the Discovery Centre.

Be sure to pick one up for your stay at Killbear so you can stay in the know!

When you’re visiting for the day

You can now get your daily vehicle permit online up to five days in advance of your Killbear visit.

New to booking in advance? We’ve broken it into step-by-step instructions here.

Once you purchase your permit online, you are guaranteed access to the park on the day you choose.

This is especially helpful for busy long weekends when you don’t want to drive all the way to Killbear only to get turned away at the gate because we’re full!

Please bring a digital or printed copy of your confirmation email.

When you arrive at the park, gate staff or park wardens may ask you to produce your confirmation letter.

If you find yourself at Killbear on a not-so-busy day and you’ve forgotten to buy your permit in advance, don’t worry!

You can still purchase a permit at one of our gatehouses or by scanning the QR code posted in parking lots around Killbear.

Purchasing in advance simply ensures that you will be able to access and enjoy Killbear on the day you plan to visit us.

If you’re a seasonal permit holder

Your seasonal permit means that you can obtain your daily vehicle permit at no additional cost.

It does not guarantee you access to the park.

During your online checkout process, you’ll have the opportunity to input the serial number on your seasonal or annual permit, updating your cart to $0.

Please remember that you require BOTH your seasonal/annual permit and your email confirmation when you visit.

Remember that confirmation email!

Either digital or printed will do – just remember that you might need to produce your confirmation letter at any time, so your phone will need to be charged for the duration of your trip.
