Located conveniently on Highway 7 between Sharbot Lake and Perth, picturesque Silver Lake Provincial Park is one of our southeast gems that remains relatively hidden.
Known for its canopy of mature mixed hardwoods and shimmering lake, this park is a must-visit.
Here are 5 reasons why you’ll love Silver Lake:
1. Lovely lake with a beautiful beach
Named for the 9 km lake it sits upon, Silver Lake offers gorgeous blue water surrounded by forests and marshes. It’s best explored by stand-up paddleboard, kayak, or canoe, all available to rent.
After paddling to your heart’s content, take a dip at the large sandy beach. During the warmer months, you’ll find plenty of activity here and in the nearby day-use area.
If you’re craving even more solitude, a second smaller beach is located near the picnic shelter.
2. There’s plenty of fish in the lake!
Fishing at Silver Lake is great for anglers of all ages and abilities!
Lines cast in this stocked lake can bring in Northern Pike, Small-mouth Bass, Lake Trout, Yellow Perch, and sunfish.
And good news: Lake Trout is in season for the entirety of the park’s operating dates, meaning you’ve got a chance to catch something no matter the time of year!
Looking for the ideal fishing spots? Ask park staff! They’ll give you the low-down before you get on the water.
3. Bring the family!
Every aspect of this park can accessed by foot. We recommend keeping your car at your campsite – a relaxing walk or bike around the park with your family is a great way to see all the park’s fantastic features!
Discovery Exploration Stations are offered throughout July and August, with Discovery kits available to borrow throughout the season.
A play structure in the day-use area provides hours of fun for kids.
In the mood for a hike? We recommend exploring the Marsh Trail, a family friendly, half-kilometre boardwalk trail that takes you through wetland and upland forest. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife such as frogs, turtles, and more!
4. Stay for the day
Did we mention all the opportunities to gather with family at Silver Lake?
The park rents a large picnic shelter that can house up to 60 people. It’s the perfect spot for a family and/or friend get-together. A barbecue is available for grilling, however electricity is not available.
The shelter can be reserved in advace, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis when it’s not already booked.
5. Stunning fall colours
Don’t let the gorgeous beach and lake activities distract you; Silver Lake also boasts beautiful fall colours without all the hustle and bustle of busier parks.
Since the park’s open until mid-October, there’s lots of time to see the full spectrum of fall colours. Spot a mix of maple trees, oaks, purple aster, goldenrod, and more.
Camp for the week and explore the many facets of the park or use Silver Lake as a basecamp to check out nearby Sharbot Lake Provincial Park, Frontenac Provincial Park, or Bon Echo Provincial Park.
Planning your visit?
Silver Lake has 146 campsites in three camping loops: Wesley, which offers pull-through electrical sites, as well as Dawson and Algonquin that offer tent campsites, many of which overlook the water.
A select number of sites do not have on-site vehicle access, however a designated parking area is very close by.
Water taps and vault toilets are located within each campground. A barrier-free comfort station is located centrally in the park.
Silver Lake is open for reservations until October 15, 2024.
